Microbiology

The Division of Microbiology with more than 40 years of education and research experience has been active in different fields, including systematic microbiology, microbial ecology, microbial science and technology, medical microbiology and applied microbiology and microbial biotechnology. So far, more than 25 faculty and laboratory technicians have been involved in research and education program. This was accomplished by a known-publication record and establishing close collaborations with academic centers with research projects related to industry, environment and human health and hygiene.

Our division is now admitting students for undergraduate and graduate programs in Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology. Our graduates are now employees in companies of petroleum and petrochemicals, hygiene and pharmaceutical, food and packaging and also bioremediation and waste water treatment plants.

Furthermore, Microbial Collection Center of the Division of Microbiology which has been established recently, provides services for identification and preservation of microbial cells and is ready to provide microbes for the research purposes.

In order to improve the scientific capabilities, the Division of Microbiology has succeeded to elaborate collaborations with Microbiology Departments of different academic centers such as Al-Zahra University, Shahid Beheshti University and also Iranian Biological Resource Center.

At present, the Division of Microbiology is run by seven faculty who are researching on their expertise fields; microbial science and technology, medical microbiology, systematic microbiology, microbial ecology, microbial biotechnology, virology and mycology. Our on-going projects focus on:

  • Bacterial diseases and infections in humans
  • Biology and Biotechnology of Extremophiles
  • Drug Resistant Bacteria
  • Environmental microbiology and biotechnology
  • Microbial biotechnology
  • microRNA
  • Molecular Virology and Gene Therapy
  • recombinant virus
  • Taxonomy and biotechnology of Archaea and Bacteria
